Medical Massage & Janet Travell Trigger Point Therapy

The term "trigger point" was coined in 1942 by Dr. Janet Travell. Trigger points are areas along the fascia and/or muscles that may feel tight, knotted and perhaps painful to the touch.

This can cause what is known as referred pain. For example, pain can be felt in the lower back that is “triggered” by knotted muscles elsewhere in the body. Often, a patient is unaware of the trigger point causing the problem and only feels the referred pain.

Trigger point massage involves working through these knots to release the muscles and fascia that has tightened. Relaxing these parts of the body can reduce or remove pain in various parts of the body.
