Chiropractic Techniques

Available at Lorenzen Chiropractic:

Diversified

This technique is the classic chiropractic adjusting technique, and is the preferred technique for many chiropractors. The technique was developed by D.D. Palmer D.C. (The developer of chiropractic) and is taught in all chiropractic colleges.

It addresses biomechanical failure in each section of the spine as it relates to specific subluxations. The focus of the technique is the restoration of normal biomechanical function. In addition diversified methods have been developed for adjusting the extremities (your knees, wrists ect...) allowing for beneficial applications in treating sports injuries and other injuries.

This technique involves specific lines of drive for all manual thrusts performed by the doctor, allowing for specificity in correcting mechanical distortions.

Gonstead

A full spine adjusting technique developed by Dr. C.S Gonstead performed by hand only.

Activator

When any force, such as a chiropractic adjustment, intrudes into the body, muscles in the involved area are automatically contracted by reflex mechinism in order to protect the area from the intrusion. This can make an adjustment hurt.

The Activator instrument produces a thrust which is quicker than the bodies reflexes can respond, So in simple terms, the forces necessary to move and adjust the joint is developed by the 'speed' of the instrument thrust and not by high 'force'. So although the Activator instrument produces a very effective thrust it is felt as a very gentle sensation only.

Flexion/Distraction

This technique involves the use of a specialized table that gently distracts or stretches the spine and allows the chiropractor to isolate the area of involvement while slightly flexing the spine in a pumping rhythm.

This technique reduces intradiscal pressure and helps with the following:

  • Increases intradiscal height
  • Increases foraminal size
  • Helps to retract disc bulges

This is the chiropractic treatment of choice for disc herniation and ruptured discs.

Sacro Occipital Technique (S.O.T)

SOT and SOT Cranial is a technique used to indentify the cause of your symptoms. An SOT doctor analyzes your body to determine underlying spinal, cranial, and organ-related problems.

The SOT practitioner determines the cause of your problems and corrects it using specific methods. SOT patients are may also be given guidance for home care, diet, and nutrition.

Thompson

Table assisted adjusting utilizes a tension controlled, segmental drop piece to facilitate the adjustment. The biomechanics of a proper adjustment are completely observed at all times. This is also considered a 'low force' adjusting technique.

Applied Kiniesiology & Extremity Adjusting

A form of diagnosis/treatment that utilizies muscle testing as a primary feedback mechanism to examine how a person's body is functioning. Along with regular diagnostic exam findings the doctor is able to better determine the best course of therapy for each individual patient. It also allows for muscle balancing, this helps the adjustments to hold better and for longer amounts of time which in turn help the patient get well faster!
